Paleo Fact #9

What kind of beef should I buy?

“Grass-finished” or “100 % grass-fed” means the animals were pastured, and fed a natural diet for 100% of their lives- best choice. “Organic” indicated the animals were never given antibiotics or artificial hormones, not exposed to synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, and are fed only organic foods free of animal by-products.

Paleo Fact #8

What kind of eggs & poultry should I buy

“Cage free” doesn’t really mean cage-free so don’t waste your cash. However, “pastured” means the animals spend time outside in their natural habitat. “Organic” means they are not given antibiotics, not exposed to synthetic pesticides and fertilizers, and are fed only organic foods free of animal by-products. Local eggs are ideal!

Paleo Fact #5

Coconut (flaked or shredded) should be free of sulfites, and have no added sugar. Check Fresh Market in Wilmington for this item. Coconut milk should come in a can- not in a milk-like carton. Buy the full-fat coconut milk—-the light has just been watered down.

Paleo Fact #4

Avoid all “vegetable” oils like peanut, soybean, corn, canola, safflower, and sunflower. These oils are far too high in polyunsaturated fat to be stable during cooking and can contribute to an excess of pro-inflammatory omega-6 fatty acids to our diet.
